Free hearing aid and €1000.00 off PRSI how brilliant is that.
Well you can get a basic pair of hearing aids for free using your €1000.00. PRSI
But, there is always a but when you get these hearing aids according to advice from various suppliers they are not recommended if you have more than, mild hearing loss going into the severe hearing loss.
When they say basic, it seem they are just that very basic compared to models up from that, in fact they are not even listed on some brochures.
Moving up from the basic prices increase from example (one companies prices) But these prices are comparable to other companies.
If you pay for any of these prices below there is 23% VAT charged by Government if the company is VAT registered. The invoice for any purchase below I am told by suppliers will include the €1000.00 PRSI Grant.
If my calculations are correct these are the VAT charges.
€2500 - 23% VAT €467.48 = €2032.52 Government takes back €467.48
€3500 - 23% VAT €560.98 = €2439.02 Government takes back €560.98
€4000 - 23% VAT €747.97 = €3253.03 Government takes back €747.97
€4950 - 23% VAT €925.61 = €4024.39 Government takes back €925.61
€5500 - 23% VAT €1028.46 = €4471.54 Government takes back €1028.46
So for instance you were paying €2500.00
€1500.00 + €1000.00 PRSI grant
VAT is deducted from the total including the €1000.00 PRSI grant
So according to that scenario you are actually paying VAT on the €1000.00 PRSI
grant as well.
So well done to the government for that.
