Google recently informed some users that Gemini AI will have access to numerous new apps starting July 7th, 2025. These include messaging apps and messengers such as WhatsApp, and it applies regardless of whether you actually use Gemini as an app assistant or not. Gemini is going live whether you like it or not. If Google is collecting information from messaging apps like WhatsApp, there is no end to end encryption. This also means, if I'm not mistaken, that the owner of WhatsApp meta would have to give Google access to all WhatsApp users data.
What information does Gemini AI collect?
From the 7th July 2025 Gemini, according to an email sent out by Google they will have access to your Phone, Messages, WhatsApp, and Utilities: Volume - Flashlight - alarm - and media controls whether you have activity control turned on or not.
No more privacy for anyone
Google collects your chats (including recordings of your Gemini Live interactions), what you share with Gemini Apps (like files, images, screens, page content from your browser), related product usage information, your feedback, info from connected apps, and location info.

Please don’t enter confidential information in your conversations or any data you wouldn’t want a reviewer to see or Google to use to improve our products, services, and machine-learning technologies.

What a statement that is.
Even if you delete you Gemini data Google retains it for three years.
"Even when Gemini Apps activity is off, your conversations will be saved with your account for up to 72 hours to allow Google to provide the service and process any feedback. This activity won't appear in your Gemini Apps activity".
"Gemini accesses certain system permissions and data (including through Google Assistant) like dialer, call and message logs, contacts it also assesses context info from device services you use with Gemini and Google Assistant"
This global conglomerate has seemingly just gone completely off the rails and think we should accept this invasion into our lives and stand back and do nothing.
The power to spy on peoples private space and our lives online is now on a scale that has never been seen in the world.
An absolute attack on our freedom of speech globally.
People are saying around the internet that this is spying on peoples private space on a scale that has never been seen in the world before, it is just getting worse and worse and completely unacceptable.
It has surpassed all the spying in two world wars and even spying in the cold war.
But this has to be stopped.
The phone providers who sell phones with Gemini installed on it are also responsible.

As a journalist I find this is just not acceptable.
I'm sure like me journalists in Ireland and all over the world will not be standing back and watching this and do nothing about it.
