The Gaelic Athletic Association - GAA
The Gaelic Athletic Association is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organization Founded: November 1, 1884.
An intrinsic part of Irish culture and it is not limited to one community but rather goes to the heart of the social fabric of Ireland and Irish people and plays an unparalleled role in the promotion of physical fitness, health & well-being, team spirit and local community identity countrywide.
Well that is what it is supposed to be.
The GAA is responsible for everything that goes on within the association and it's pitches, what third party it hires, advertising, commercial deals for pitch hire, retaining its Irish roots and amateur status, respecting the players and fans and how they reflect the organization in the stadiums and pitches.
I played up to the age of eighteen winning underage county medals in both hurling and football.
Grab All Association
It was always called the Grab All Association referring to its greedy nature, as far back as I can remember. But I think people weren't too bothered as long as it wasn't too over the top. Most people play it for the love of our national sports.
But that has changed over the past few years and more so in the past few years in particular. Crossing the line into serious moves away from our Irish culture and amateur roots. Some would say now an era of provocatively insulting us and our way of life taking our players and supporters for granted.
But without the players and supporters there is no GAA.
Hurling
Maybe they are going to try and turn hurling into some form of cricket.
Gaelic Football
The game of Gaelic Football now seem more like a game of Basketball, or Australian Football or something like that. It hasn't the slighted resemblance to the Gaelic football I played. I don't know why it is still called Gaelic Football.
Kicking frees out of your hand, marks, two point circles, the whole team running like blue arsed flys from one end of the field to the other. You look into the full forward line and the whole full forward line could be out in centre field position. Nobody seem to know where the players are, they could be in any position. The goal keeper is sometimes playing out field.
I really don't know what it is now. Maybe it's better, I don't know, but its certainly not Gaelic Football as I know it.
Are the hierarchy hell bent on destroying what the GAA represents?
Is it an amateur association or a commercial organization?
Is it a commercial organization posing as an amateur association?
The hierarchy in charge of the GAA now seems hell bent on destroying the GAA and what it represents to us Irish people from the inside. Provoking us to the point where most people in the game I have spoken to do not want to participate or be used in this insulting behavior and why should they?
Why should they go out on a field and play with no remuneration?
Why should they go out on a field and play with no remuneration while the big boys use them and the supporters under the guise of the so called amateur association, to line their pockets.
80,000 fans x €100.00 per ticket
= €8.000.000 - 8 million euro
Just one match
Big commercial events - Where is all the money going?
Big commercial events now, seemingly no restriction. Bringing in professional matches with profession players like soccer and rugby but the GAA players get practically nothing.
On top of that they decide it is good idea to insult their culture as well.
Government Influence
These people, obviously influenced by our government and have been for years, seem to think that the GAA is actually belonging to them to do what they like with it and not the Irish people.
